Gold Cup Tips
Who Should We Back?
With the Gold Cup likely to involve quite a big field we can use a couple of statistics to help narrow down the field:
Most Winners Of The Gold Cup Have Previous Course Form
Cheltenham is a difficult course to negotiate, with fences that require accurate jumping so look out for horses who have positive course form
Recent Winners Tend To Be Aged Between 7 and 9
Youth is all important when looking for a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner as older horses tend not to have the combination of speed and stamina required for this ultimate test.
Who Does That Leave?
Many punters will be keen to back Kauto Star again after he regained the Gold Cup in 2009. Whilst that was a herculean effort Kauto will be ten years old by the time of the 2010 Gold Cup so it may pay to side with a horse slightly younger and one who has come very close to beating Kauto Star already.

Imperial Commander was the highly impressive winner of both the 2008 Paddy Power Handicap Chase and the 2009 Ryanair Chase and with a tremendous effort to get within a whisker of Kauto Star over three miles at Haydock in the recent Betfair Chase, appears to have confirmed he has the stamina to be a major contender in the Gold Cup as well
